There is an unexplainable, almost unbearable sadness in losing someone in the prime of their lives. With so many questions, so many impenetrable feelings, we suddenly find ourselves at a loss for words, we even wrestle with how to express how sorry we are.
Death is never easy. And no matter of what kind of death we speak of, both sudden death and anticipated death, there is pain.
And the death of a person in the prime time of their lives, it is especially heartbreaking. We are sad because the younger they are, we think, the more they missed. And the more random the incident, we think, the more undeserved death is.
Losing a loved one, friend or family member, leaves us speechless and shaking with emotions. How is it possible to walk through this stench of agony and grief?
There's something about the concept of dying young that is haunting. We simply feel so robbed.
The recent unexpected death of a friend, in the prime of his life, brought back some memories for me… You might ask what kind of memories am I talking about, or what brought back those memories?...well, the aim of the memory is to give an answer to a great question proposed ...what can we share about past experiences with the loss of a loved one?
For me, my father came to mind...
We lost my dad 21 years ago, he was 53 years old...he was young…he was in the prime of his life…I was in pain…we were in unbearable shock and pain…
After the painful news sank in, I remember being with a very sweet friend…as we were sitting next to each other in her car, I was sobbing, she lovingly and gently told me, that there is nothing she can do or say to take my pain away...I knew she knew exactly what she was talking about, herself losing a loved one, just a few years back...but as we sat there in the quiet, she continued, and shared with me something Very precious, it did not take my pain away, but for sure helped a lot, made it more bearable...she shared the story of Jesus, about how when He showed up at Mary and Martha’s, even though He knew Lazarus was dead already, and even though He knew He will raise him from the dead, Jesus wept.
Just two simple words: Jesus Wept, and yet they carry a world of significance…those 2 words from the pages of the Word, meant the world to me.
Sweet Jesus wept...He felt...He was present...He knew about it...this is probably the shortest phrase in the Bible, but one of its most powerful, and insightful one.
In love, we weep with those who weep. Jesus wept. And in these tears we see that God does not stand unsympathetic and detached from the pain of our existence. He has drawn near! The pain is real, but so are Jesus’s tears!
1 Corinthians 15:55-57:
So death, tell me, where is your victory? Tell me death, where is your sting? [a] (TPT)
Death swallowed by triumphant Life! Who got the last word, oh, Death? Oh, Death, who’s afraid of you now? (The Message)
